PJT Coach Biographies - Trevor McDonald

Sports I love all sports really. I played semi pro rugby in Ireland and South Africa in my youth but I am now too old for that and spend my time running and cycling (on and off road) and trying not to drown when I go “swimming”.

Interest in Triathlon  I did my first triathlon in Noosa, Australia in 2007. I still compete today but stick to short distance events because I have no stamina and with 3 very busy young kids, have limited time to train.

Major Events In addition to Noosa a couple of times, I have completed a few marathons and the Chicago triathlon but mainly stick to local triathlon races where I regularly turn in distinctly average performances.

Why do you coach?  Two of my children joined the club last year and love it. I wanted to do my bit to help out. Having coached P1 to P6 rugby (which I really enjoyed), I felt I had some transferable skills and could bring something a bit different to the coaching team. I also really enjoy helping young people learn and develop.

I completed my Level 1 triathlon coaching course, first aid in sport certificate and Safeguarding and Protecting Children qualification in 2019 and hold a TriSafe coaching endorsement from Triathlon Scotland.

Long term personal and club goals.   To see the children really enjoy triathlon, stay happy and healthy and make lots of friends along the way.  From a personal point of view, I would love to get to a level where I could represent Ireland at age group level in Triathlon.
